It's official - Lizarraga is in!

Quartzsite Councilman Jose Lizarraga
has turned in paperwork which declares him as a candidate to run against Ed Foster in the August recall election. He has until July 1st to change his mind and decide that his job with the Fire Dept. is more important than $400 a month to be Alex Taft's mouthpiece.

Three other potential candidates have pulled packets, but so far, none have turned anything in.

Lizarraga can expect a knock down drag out battle, in light of his abysmal voting record. Citizens are outraged at his recent votes in favor of firing respected Town Prosecutor Matt Newman and replacing him with Martin Brannan (who is under investigation by the state bar), raising their water and sewer rate fees, assert property rights over the "emergency airstrip", and as of last Tuesday's meeting, convening yet another "ad hoc" committee at taxpayer expense to censure the mayor and then walking off the podium when AZCOPS Vice President Stair attempted to address the council. Read the speech Lizarraga refused to hear at:

Mayor Foster has published an excerpt from the police department policy manual which clearly shows that Lizarraga and the others are willfully violating town rules by hiring a "private investigator" instead of a law enforcement agency to look into the criminal charges against the police chief.  The mentality that the rules apply only to us, and not to members of the council or to staff has been enabled for far too long.

A video has been circulating around town, which clearly shows Lizarraga motioning the other council members to walk out of the meeting. We've already had a mayor, Steve Bennett, turn his back on the voters and abandon them. Do we need another?

  2. Jose if you get this election please open your eyes to What is going on at QPD. I have known you for over 10 years and have known you to be a positive reasonible man. Jeff is doing things that are not legal, Do you really think all those officers would place their job on the lin in this time of such a bad econemy if this wasn't true? You know better then that and I would like to think you motioned the other members to leave the last meeting so things didn't get discussed about Jeff's investigation. Yes you were right while the investigation is going on the council members can not discuss that topic till it's finished. I don't know when Jeff's contract is up with the Town of QTZ but for the better of that community it needs to NOT be renewed.

  3. Jose just voted for Jeffy's new contract in February, I believe. This was after knowing enough detailed information that a reasonable man would have done otherwise. Many people had faith in Jose, but it became apparent he sold out to the dark side, when he voted in lockstep with the others to take away powers from the incoming Mayor that were entrusted to idiots like Huntley, and basically give them to Alex Taft - a master manipulator. It's only gone down hill from there. They have all run us into financial ruin. At every opportunity, Jose chose to vote with them, instead of voting with the best interest of the community. If the voters continue to keep any of them in power after the last meeting, they should all wear a big sign proudly proclaiming their stupidity, so the rest of us will know who to blame.

  4. One only has to look to the City of Bell, California to see what is in store for the Town of Quartzsite and its elected officials (Town Council Members), Alex Taft, Al Johnson, and Jeff Gilbert! How does Councilman Joe Lizarraga expect to get the votes after the June 14th town meeting where he walked out (Was it not reported that he was the leader in that walk out over VP Stair from AZCOPS?) twice during the meeting?

  5. Count me in!!! I just turned in my "Political Committee $500 Threshold Exemption Statement", so that I can start collecting signatures too! I was going to take a wait and see approach, but after reviewing the videos of the the last 2 meetings, It's on Jose!!! I told you that day at the post office that I wouldn't sue you for what the council knowingly allowed to happen at Greasewood last year, because you'd always been straight with me, but your actions against Foster and for Gilbert since then have removed any special consideration. My lawyer is currently amending my claim to include this years events. That's one fire you can't put out!!!

  6. Somehow I don’t think you will have any problems in getting the signatures that you need in just a few days. One the other side of the coin, on the salary that Lizarraga gets from town hall and working as a captain on the fire department how can he afford the legal defense that he will be facing before the recall election. After all, another $100/month can be that much help!

  10. Hey All Caps Anonymous, I think you are right! (but you don't have to shout it at us)

Which one do you think Chief of Police Jeff Gilbert is going to like best in prison, the food, or the sex?

  11. Jose did not attend this afternoon's work session. It will be interesting to see who they chose to fill his vacant seat for the remainder of his term. Perhaps, he knows he can't win against Foster, and considers this his way out of the fray...
